JACARANDA PARK
Awarded $5 million Prop 84 Park Development Grant.
The proposed 5.35-acre park is located in the Watts neighborhood of South Los Angeles, an area with a critical lack of park space and a large number of families living below the poverty level. The Department of Water and Power utilizes the land for an overhead transmission line. Surrounded by single family residential and an elementary school, this long and linear park’s design includes beautifully landscaped play spaces and a colorful California-friendly demonstration garden. A combination of active and passive recreation facilities were included at the suggestion of the community during the extensive planning process.
